Off to the MTC!
On Wednesday, July 31st, we delivered Jacob safely to the Provo MTC (Missionary Training Center).
First, we made a trip to Sammy's for delicious burgers, chicken strips and shakes. We also dealt with a carsick kid. But all-in-all, it was a good trip. Note--if you haven't been to Sammy's, just know that this is the CLASSIC DIVE-Y HANGOUT. I mean, complete dive at its best--dumpy looking place with great food.
{To see what happens at the MTC, go here.}
Now, taking our oldest son to the MTC to begin a two-year mission for our LDS faith was a little harder than we thought it would be. Our oldest hasn't lived at home full-time for almost 4 years, but this is different. She can come and go and we can call or text her anytime we want. LDS missionaries are restricted to answering their mail on their once-per-week P-day (p is for preparation). They don't text or call family, except on Mother's Day and Christmas, as allowed by the mission president. We can email or write to Jacob every day if we want, but he can only answer on his P-day.
It's a little bit to adjust to, not seeing him everyday, but we are happy that he decided to serve a mission. No one should wonder if his parents or church leaders made him do it--the answer to that would be a resounding NO. Jacob CHOSE. He WANTS to do this. He has a testimony of Jesus Christ and wants to share it with the world--at least the section in Kennewick, Washington. :)
So even though we miss him, we are happy to see him doing what he has wanted to do for a long time!!
